Well, as you may have noticed from the top of my page, this is ALSO a blog about electronic music and the so-called ‘rave’ scene, a community of people of which I consider myself a member. Since the early 1990s, when rave music came to prominence and then fell to its children as Drum and Bass, Goa, Breaks, House, etc., I have collected rare dance music on vinyl (specifically on vinyl! mp3s suck!). For the last 10 years, my trusty Numark Matrix3 mixer served me well, but I never quite warmed up to it and its sticky crossfader =)
Thus last week, when the damn thing finally gave out on the left channel once and for all, I bought a replacement. Guitar Center had a deal, 329$ + shipping for a little known product from a famous brand. After quickly researching online (particularly youtube) I bought myself a new Korg Kaoss 402 4-channel digital mixer (with effects!). It’s a paradigm leap for me as a hobbyist dj, and it is much needed since I have been recently out on the rave scene again, making friends with the local djs and warming up to playing undergraound parties again. You are NEVER too old to be a good dj =) Not even at 38.
Anyway, Juli hates my music, but if I can still collect records through 13 years of (mostly blissful!!) marriage to a person who HATES (I mean it, she really HATES dance music, preferring …say.. Pat Benetar =[…) my music, and I still have persisted, I submit that I am indeed a die-hard vinyl fan, and a true old-school rave kid =p
Anyway, here’s my setup, expect mixset posts soon (hence the audio tests last year) !!
Peace – chitlenz
